Wooohoooo!!!!!! Yesterday's post was my 400th post!!!!! I must have posted much more frequently years ago.
Ava had an eye appointment today. It was just a quick one. I was dreading the wait, knowing that it was spring break and in the afternoon. It wasn't bad at all though. The place was pretty empty. Anyway, everything looked good. Her pressures were 20 and 20. That is still in her good range, so nothing is changing. She can throw a fit all she wants about getting the drops. She still needs them because they are keeping her from needing surgery.
The yarn I ordered yesterday shipped. I am hoping it comes by Saturday so I can give my sister in law hers. That wasn't a very exciting update.
We have started planting our garden. I should have gone to water today, but I honestly didn't have any time. Hopefully tomorrow we will get out there. I also need to get some carrot seeds and this round of planting will be done. When Ava and I were out there Tuesday, our plot neighbor offered to rototil our patch for us. I said no because we were on a time crunch and I didn't want to have to be rude and leave while he was in the middle of things and Rhys and I had already planted some seeds the day before. I am definitely going to have to leave some spots clear of seeds. I thought Rhys and Ava might be more interested in planting but they aren't. We will clearly have some semi-neat rows and some clusters where they each gave up and dumped out their hand. They pretty much each just want to dig. The need their own shovels and their patch of dirt that they can dig in. They also want to get some decorations so we are going to have to see what the dollar store has to offer.
Rhys is 90% of the way potty trained. He just can't do #2. He says he doesn't feel it until it is too late. I say 90% because he only goes #2 once or twice a week. He is dry at night most of the time too. He hasn't wet the bed in a month. Until last night. It was my bed. That is all I have to say about that.

I got worms!
Spring has jumped on us. There wasn't much of a winter this year at all. Really, we only had one decent snow. I kept thinking it would just be a mild winter, but instead March has been full of record setting highs. Temperatures in the 80's and all that. I am loving it. It has definitely made me start planning for the summer. In past years we have tried to grow vegetables in pots and in the actual dirt around our patio. Being in a townhouse means space is limited. I have tried to be creative and it hasn't been very successful. Things taste bad because of the dirt. The landscapers mow down everything. The wind tunnel behind our house makes pots fly all over the place, even if they are weighted down. So....
NOTE: I just wrote the entire post and it crashed and this is where it was saved to. You have now missed out on a ton of very exciting and relevent information about our lives. I know. You are sad.
Anyway, so while I was signing Ava and Rhys up for gymnastics at the park district, I notice that the park district was starting up organic community garden plots. We booked one. The kids and I made lists of what we wanted to grow. We mapped it out. We bought seeds. We also researched organic fertilization. That means compost! We are back to the original problem of living in a townhouse. We found another solution. Worm composting! I went on the internet and bought some worms. Who knew you could buy worms on the internet? I didn't. Ava helped me research this and how to set it up. She drew diagrams to help explain it to Justin. She was collecting banana peels to feed the worms. She is so excited about it. Hopefully I can handle the added responsibility of worms. Research worm composting. Eventually my worms will reproduce enough that I will have some to give away. You could be the lucky person who gets them!

The sweetness that is Rhys
Today is Rhys' 3rd birthday. I have been taking little mental pictures of him the last couple of days, just to remember him right where he is. The other night Justin made a gingerbread house with the kids.
Starting first thing in the morning the next day all I heard about was Rhys getting to eat dessert. What he meant was eating the house. I came down the stairs at one point and could see him leaning over the kitchen table, trying to lick the roof of the house. I wish I had a camera right at that moment because it was hilarious.
Rhys is insanely smart. He takes this apart. He loves to build things and fix things. He also is very nurturing and has all of his guys or babies, depending on the day, that he has to take care of. He has his buddy, the lion that Ava gave him when he had his tonsils out. He has his moose and a baby monkey. All of them usually have to be in bed with him. He prefers to have them all tucked under his blanket with him because he says they need him. He is pretty convinced that the cats talk to him when they meow and that he can understand what they need. Tequi has gotten him to open bedroom doors because Rhys thinks the cat said he wants toys and is sad.
Rhys gets into trouble like no other and will lie like nobody's business. He does not get that things are really off limits to him and is a repeat offender with things like lotion, soap, make up, and markers.
A few weeks ago, he decided that he would ask Santa to get me make up and shoes. He figured it would be a good gift for me and wanted to know if it would be ok if he told Santa to get me those things. He was telling my friend Val his plan and she told him to ask Santa for some for her too while he was at it. Tonight at dinner Ava was talking about wanting to get all of us presents. Rhys says, "It is ok, I told Santa to get Mommy make up and shoes, and Miss Val too. Remember Mommy? I told her that at McDonald's?" We hadn't talked about that at all past that day but he remembered like it just happened.
My favorite thing about Rhys is his heart. Today I asked him to help Ava with her things when we got out of the car after picking her up from school. She had a bunch of little gifts and projects from her class party and she always insists on taking her coat off in the car and carrying it into the house. By the time I got him out of his seat, she had managed to get everything situated so she didn't need any help. Rhys was crushed. He was sobbing because he wanted to help her. He didn't stop until we got to the door and she asked him to take her backpack. He did and cheered right up. Tonight I was trying to take a nap before going into work. I was lying in bed and it looked like I was asleep. Rhys snuck into my bed, being very careful to crawl around me. He gets right up to my face and gives me a huge kiss on the cheek, making sure to make a good kissing noise. He then strokes my forehead with his hand and leans on me to hug me. He kisses me again and then lies down next to me to go to sleep. If you are lucky enough to be one of Rhys' people, he will make sure you know it. You will be showered with affection. I hope he never loses that. Don't hold back, Bubbie.

Christmas begins!
Ava went back to school today after our vacation and her Thanksgiving break. (I will do a post on Disney, hopefully...eventually. It would be pointless without pictures.) I reminded Ava last night that she had to go to school in the morning. Rhys said, "No! I will miss her!" Needless to say, he got used to having full access to Ava and we needed to plan a busy morning.
So we started to prep for Christmas. We had to move the dog cage around, vacuum and mop. I did an initial cleaning with the vacuum and Rhys then took over. He really was into helping. We got the tree out and set it up. He had fun fanning out the branches. I hated the old bitter yuck spray we had put on the tree in years past getting in my mouth. Our pre-lit tree has dead lights. It is now just a cluttery looking dark tree. Ava requested multi-color lights this year, so I had gotten some on this giant wheel looking thing. Rhys focused enough to stand on the other side of the tree and pass the lights back to me. It was actually impressive that at this point in time, he had paid attention for over an hour.
We then got crazy and got the ladder out and hung some lights up outside. Never in my life have I done this. It wasn't that hard at all. They might blow off with the first breeze, but oh well. He even hammered in a nail and I almost dropped a hammer on my head. It was a very efficient project.
After Ava got home, we made some snow man door hanger decorations and I spent the afternoon ignoring pleas to start putting on decorations. We waited for Justin to get home to do that. Ava was so excited to see ornaments that she recognized and remembered. She also liked seeing all the ones she has made. Rhys was bummed that he didn't have any that he had made or gotten from events. He did like playing with all the movable ornaments and singing his own version of Jingle Bells every time one had a bell of sorts on it. I am so looking forward to Christmas this year. I don't think it is going to be fancy or elaborate. I just think both of them are the right age to make it so fun.

A little story about a boy named Rhys
Here is a little story I should have posted about a month ago. We were over at a friend's house one night. They also have a two year old little boy. He and Rhys are friends from church. So the two of them were in a little corner of the livingroom playing with a tool bench. My friend Lee thinks she will be extra awesome by pretending to be a tiger that wants to eat them. She is down on the ground growling at them and taking swipes at them with her 'paw'. The two boys are not amused. They clearly have been attacked by this vicious beast before so they are actually acting scared and backing into the corner, saying, "no! no!" until Rhys steps up. You see him look at his friend and realize that he isn't going to help and this tiger beast is getting closer.
Rhys has his tool in his hand. A screwdriver. Rhys steps a little bit forward, putting himself between the tiger lady and his friend. Rhys, jabs the screwdriver forward and in a very assertive tone of voice says, "Stop or you're gonna get screwed!"
We all laughed uncontrollably for a few minutes. Poor Rhys was a little embarrassed. He obviously had no idea why we were laughing. I talked to him about it the next day and told him that I was really proud of him for trying to defend his friend...from the pretend tiger that would only tickle.
Rhys being attacked by the tiger earlier that day.

First day of Kindergarten!
Monday was Ava's first day of school. Full disclosure: I have dreaded this day since the day she was born. It was just full of mixed emotions for me. It symbolized a whole lot of what if's in my head. Turns out, when the day came I wasn't nervous. I think a huge part of that was being very comfortable with our choice for school. I wasn't scared or nervous, I was excited. I was super excited. I was Christmas morning excited. I had a hard time sleeping Sunday night. I did have some crazy dream about Ava taking a friend's hand and walking out into deep water, completely ignoring me telling her not to and I was helpless to save her. So I guess I was a little nervous underneath all the excitement.
Justin stayed home in the morning to take her to school too. I made cinnamon rolls, her requested breakfast for the first day of school, and we were off. It is pretty cool that her school does have so much parental involvement. I don't think anybody in 5th grade or below was just dropped off. Everyone's parent walked them in. Justin and Rhys parked in a different place than Ava and I did (Justin was going to work immediately following drop off) and as we were walking up to the school I saw parents taking pictures of their kids at the school sign. I saw very long, emotional hugs. Suddenly...I felt the urge to cry. It was like being at a wedding. Not sure why you are crying, but it is like there is way too much free emotions floating around in the atmosphere or something. We go into the school and show Ava to her seat. She got right down to business coloring a shirt. She was acting a little shy even though one of her friends from preschool purposefully chose to sit right next to her. (She now says that Emma, the preschool friend, has decided that they are best friends for the year.) We gave her kisses good bye and walked out. I still had the crying feeling but I didn't. The PTM (similar to PTA, but it is a Christian school so everything is a Ministry) hosted a boohoo/yahoo breakfast for parents and as we walked in, I was asked to declare myself. Boohoo or yahoo? I was like for the love! don't make me say it out loud! I was a little of both, apparently.
Rhys and I went to the library for story time and crafts. He was so calm on Monday. I don't think he knew what to do with himself and only me. We ran errands afterward and then went back to pick up Ava.
Today on the other hand, Rhys decided to take on this persona.
It involved many time outs, including one for spitting all over his hand and sticking it in my mouth. It was like a really bad wet willy.

Big guy
Rhys hasn't wanted to be outdone by Ava turning 5 and starting school soon. Nope. He has decided to potty train himself. I am just more or less giving pointers, and reminders. He is doing it all. We are finishing up 24 hours of no diapers and are doing really well. I wouldn't say accident free, but as long as he is able to get to his potty right away, he is fine.
Ava was gone all weekend after her party, so we had a lot of Rhys time. He is pretty funny without her and the level of whining in the house drops drastically. We were playing on our bed Saturday night and I threw him off of me onto a pillow. Dori didn't like that. She got herself in between the two of us, pretty much a hands off sign. She sat there pretty calmly, but definitely sat there alert, next to him for the next half an hour or so just giving me the eye.

no excuses
I haven't written in a long time. It is what it is. Moving on.
Yesterday Rhys discovered the box of Justin's old GI Joe's in the garage. He stayed out in the garage, literally dripping sweat, playing with them. I brought him to rehydrate and cool off. It wasn't that hot in the garage, just kind of stuffy. He tried playing with them in the house but he thinks the garage is better for some reason. He woke up this morning and wanted to hurry up and have breakfast so he could go back to playing.
Justin is getting a new phone through work...the new iphone. I know, woopadeee doo!!!! No really, I was filled with insane jealousy. I am usually not a jealous person. Other people are allowed to have things! It was that he didn't even want an iphone. I did! For 3 years!!! but we had a cell service that doesn't carry them. Then my train of thought was hmmm, how much would it be for us to switch service now that I am the only person on our plan? I am up for an upgrade anyway, contract wise, so now would be a good time. I had looked in the past and for hte family plan, it didn't make sense. Turns out, it was the last day of a promotion and when it arrives today, I will have my own iphone that cost me $9 and a plan that pretty much costs the same as my old one. Maybe a couple dollars more, depending on the corporate discount. I am excited to get it, but I am actually feeling a little guilty that I was motivated by feelings of jealousy. I can also bless someone else with my old phone so yay.
Ava has her golden birthday on Friday. Her birthday is a very big deal this year. It definitely has to do with the fact that in school, her friends talked about birthdays all year. They built it up to be a great time. She has me sucked into the hugeness of it. I am trying to remind myself, it is just a birthday. Though it is a great day, lets not get too crazy.
Our summer will be coming to a slow halt. Ava has a laser treatment on Monday, which pretty much means the last 2 weeks of summer break will be spent inside. I guess since she is only in morning kindergarten, we can still do some summery stuff in the afternoons. I am looking forward to hanging out with just Rhys everyday, for the first time in his whole life. It will definitely be an adjustment for all of us.

miscellaneous
I am going to attempt to get back into the blogging habit this summer. I missing out on the kid updates, and this is my record of what they did when, for when they are older.
Last week Rhys went pee on the potty for the first time ever. He says he has to go potty all the time, but has only gone once. We are going to try to do the full out potty training the week of the 27th after Ava gets her laser treatment and we are inside by default.
I am getting all set to put on my "school mom of the year" pants. I am hopefully going to the uniform resale today at Ava's school to see if there are any good deals. It is a resale put on by the PTM (parent/teacher ministry, like the PTA) as a fundraiser for the school. I also placed my first script order (thanks Diana!)and we have earned $8.80 towards our $200. So if you have any need for gift cards, let me know and I will order them for you! We will be using gift cards to pay for most things from here on out, groceries, gas. That way we can earn our money with just regular purchases instead of having to spend extra.
I have lost all motivation for knitting. It is a sad state of affairs. I have three projects started and I guess I am not all that interested in any of them right now.
I am off to go change a poopy diaper and convince Rhys so say lemonade again. He says mamalade. It is pretty cute.

July 22nd: Me: Is this what you are wearing today? Ava: Yeah! I love flowers and I love candy.
Aug 4th: Ava: humph! I'm not going to talk to you. Me: Fine, that also means no whining at me. Ava: Fine! I'm whining at myself!
Aug 8th: Ava: uhhh mommy, the poopie looks like there is corn in it.
Aug. 30th Ava: Maybe we could go to Popeye's and get that chicken that Phineas and Ferb were eating.
Sept. 8th (first day of preschool, in the pick up line to get Ava, everytime we would move a little bit forward) Rhys: Here come!!!!!! I see Awa! Here come!!!!!!
Sept. 16th: Ava: I have a white spot on my nose. Me: Ok. Do you not like the white spot? Ava: Well, white spots and black spots are ok for cows, but I don't know if I like the white spot on my nose.
Sept. 24th: Ava: I want to learn how to knit. Then we can pick out pretty yarn together and drink hot chocolate and sit by the fire together.
Sept. 27th: Rhys: Ma ma ma ma ma ma ma ma FACE! (this was his version of Poker Face by Lady Gaga)

poor bubba
Poor Rhys. He never gets any blog posts. His 18 months milestone post came and went and I never posted anything! Now I can't even remember his specific measurement to catch up. He doesn't have any activities for me to post pictures of or anything like that. He is just the little cool dude who hangs out with me.
Let's talk about Rhys for a bit. He is a funny, funny little guy. He has adopted Ava's knock knock joke. Rhys: Knock, knock. You: Who's there? Rhys: Poopie. You: Poopie who? Rhys: (blank stare). Then he will laugh.
He does this thing where he will frown at you to get you to frown and then he pulls his face into this crazy grin, similar to what you would picture if you were trying to smile while on a roller coaster. As soon as you do that face, he will frown again. This will continue on and on.
Rhys and Ava play pretty well together most of the time. He has started to think it is funny to take what she is playing with and run away with it. I hear "Mine!!!!!!!!!!" followed by shreiking about 20 times a day. I don't know who is doing it because they pretty much sound exactly alike when crying or screaming.
He loves to sing and dance. Ever since he was a baby, I would generally chant while rocking him. "Rhys-y, piecey" I don't know why. It wasn't very creative. Ava had a whole song. I guess I could only rock and get slightly above a hum. I was able to keep going even if I was falling asleep. He still likes it when I do it, and now will sing with me.
(he has a thing for hats)
He and Ava are definitely a lot alike. Both are generally very gentle and affectionate and like to cuddle. Rhys is a lot more forthcoming with new people than Ava ever was or still is. He rarely is shy. I don't know if he really knows what that word means. He talks a lot. I can pretty much discuss most things with him and at least find out what he wants or things about it. I think a few of his meltdowns are related to him being frustrated that we don't know what he is saying, but we get most things. His favorite phrases are "I like it." "I no like it." "Open it." "Close it." "Cute" "Don't touch Pepe." "Get down!"
I love where he is at right now. I can't believe he is racing closer to 2 and farther away from baby. I love that he still wants to cuddle first thing in the morning, says "I waf you!" at least 30 times away. He still calls Ava "Aya" or "Awa" and is light enough to carry around. Ava has suddenly gotten long and all leggy and is definitely not a baby anymore. Just thinking that soon the Awa will become Ava makes me want to go home and video tape his crazy dance. "Watch this!!!"

This is what happens when you use a candle snuffer as a microphone. It is hard to be a performer.

positive
The landscapers put mulch down today, for the first time in two years. They skipped last summer for some reason. Anyway, they killed my sunflower. It was growing strong and straight. It now has no leaves and is bent in half. So we will focus on the positive and look at how big the pumpkin blossoms are getting.
I am having a hard time getting a good picture of Rhys' new hair. He won't sit still long enough. He has fully hit the terrible 2's at 18 months. He throws fits about everything because he gets so frustrated with not being able to do exactly what he wants. When he is being nice he is awesome because he can communicate more and he is just funny. Anyway, here is his hair...it definitely needs trimmed up more but he got tired of sitting and so he looks like he might have been in prison sometime around 1950.

all day long
All day long I have had ideas and things going through my head that I wanted to say and now I can't think of anything.
*Earlier in the week we went grocery shopping at Target. Ava was so excited, she could hardly contain herself. She acted like everything was a great find. Who needs Disney when we could just go grocery shopping.
*The painting is finished in the house. It looks awesome. It is now a small mystery to figure out when things will be hung back up on the walls. It took years the first time, I highly doubt it will take that long again.
*Ava started gymnastics last week. It isn't really gymnastics. They are mostly learning how to jump and balance. Very basic intro skills. Ava definitely needs the intro skills. She still doesn't really know how to jump. Good news though, we found a leotard so at least she will look cute while not really jumping.
*I have the whole body of the cardigan I am knitting finished. I am working on the first sleeve. I have been pretty distracted with other things going on so I haven't worked on it much lately.
*Justin ran in the warrior dash this weekend. I am sure it was a ton of fun for him and something he enjoys doing. We tried to go and watch. I am glad we got to see the set up and stuff, but it turned out to be a huge waste of a Saturday for me and the kids. Tons of waiting and being hot. Shockingly enough, we weren't the ones sunburned. Justin just dabbed it on in a few places and got burned everywhere else. The rest of us were totally fine.
*I have a new favorite Keurig coffee. It is Daybreak Blend from Caribu. I just love it and think you should know.
*We went to the pool on Friday afternoon as a family. Justin got to experience Rhys' fear/fascination with the drain at the pool. We also figured out that Rhys loves the splash station thing. He will stand under the water as it pours in his face and he really doesn't care, yet he still isn't too thrilled about the idea of standing in 6 inches of water. The lazy river was broken which was a bummer since Ava really wanted Justin to come just so she could go on it. It looks like he will have to come with us another time this summer.
*8 days until we watch Eclipse! I should re-read the book, but I must pace myself. Now that school is finished (hallelujah!!!!!!!!!) I have some more time to read so I have at least 5 days to read something else.
*I just finished reading Her Mother's Hope by Francine Rivers. LOVED IT! I can't wait until the 2nd part comes out. I read another book by the same author a while ago and got completely sucked in. I know she has quite a few other books, but for some reason I am hesitant to read them. I read the first two off of recommendations, so I am not sure what the thoughts are about her other books.
*I also finished reading Water for Elephants. I know it has been out for a while, but I really enjoyed it. I love having things on my nook! I just wish I knew more people who either had the nook or used Barnes and Noble ereader. I am a generous sharer of books, so let me know if you would like to be on my share list! Plus, somebody share with me!

at the pool
So today was our first day of the summer spent at the pool. By day, I mean a little over 2 hours. That is plenty of time for us. We brought all the sand toys we have collected this year and a good hour was happily spent in the giant sandbox.
I liked this time too because I actually got to sit back and burn my legs. Later on we went into the pool. Ava was following her friend that is a little bit taller and a lot braver into deeper water. I was right with her but she started to get scared when the water was over her shoulders. I was holding Rhys in one arm and she was hanging on my other arm. She started to panic as I was lifting her up a bit higher and taking her over to the wall. I said, "I've got you." As soon as the water got up to Rhys he started getting scared and he said, "I got you!!!!!!!" Pretty much anytime he was in anything more than 5 inches of water, he got scared and started crying, "I got you!!!!!!" I thought it was pretty cute in a sad puppy dog kind of way.

Sorry, I know you will hate me when you are older
Tonight Rhys named his "business". We were getting ready for bath time and he was clearly gesturing and saying, "toot." I asked him if that was his toot and he said, "Yes! Toot!" I told him to go show Daddy his toot and he ran off and showed Daddy his toot.
Softball season started tonight. We had two games. I think I sucked less than last year, so that is an improvement. I am now very sore and ready to not move for a while.

nap time disasters
Yesterday Rhys had a bad run of trying to take his nap. It took over 2 hours and still no nap actually happened. He cried for about 45 minutes off and on and seemed to get more upset so Justin went in to calm him down, make sure he had a pacifier and all that. He discovered that he had a poopy diaper and that was probably part of the problem. So he changed it and apparently left the old diaper on his dresser.
Rhys was quite for a few minutes and then started crying again. After about half an hour it stopped being fake whiney cry and turned into really crying. I mentioned that he was really upset and maybe we should go get him and end this whole nap taking idea. Justin goes in to check on him and I hear, "Oh Bubba. What happened? What did you do?" Rhys had gotten ahold of the poopy diaper. I am so glad that Justin was here for the day that Rhys apparently ate poop. He had poop all over his face and in his hair. He had stepped in it and danced all over his crib. Justin wiped his face and head off first and then gave him to me and I gave him a bath. I could not believe that I was cleaning poop out from under his nails. Justin took care of the crib mess and it has since been thoroughly sanitized.
Shortly after his bath and getting dressed he was still acting tired, so we tried for the nap again. 20 minutes later I hear him start crying again. I was pretty much thinking it wasn't worth it at this point since it was almost dinner time and he would just go to bed early. I go into his room and he had his head stuck in his shirt. I really wish I had taken a picture. He had pulled his head out of the headhole and had the front part of his shirt stretched and stuck on the top of his head. It was hilarious.
So Rhys learned a new word out of this whole experience. This morning I go to get him out of bed. He is standing in his crib, pulls up his shirt and points to his diaper and says, "Poopoo!" He was correct.
Rhys, remember that it has been true at some point when we call you a poop face. And...you probably have eaten poop.

good bye and hello!
So Sunday we realized that sometime that morning or the night before, the cats had dumped the glass of water next to my bed onto my laptop. It no longer would turn on and was dead. It just so happened that I had a paper to write for school Sunday as did Justin. It made it very clear that we both needed to have access to a computer at any given point, since we are both taking online classes. In two weeks we will both have final projects due and those take hours and hours to write, so it isn't like we can just take turns and expect to be able to finish on time. I had recently transferred almost all of my pictures onto an external hard drive so I am not stressing about the loss of files or anything. Luckily I am getting my tuition reimbursement from work later this week, so that meant that I got to get a new computer! It is much nicer than myold one and runs so much better because it doesn't have Windows Vista. So thanks kitties. You destroy everything, but this time I kind of like the end results. An even better end result: Justin is jealous that I got a new laptop so he has to do something computery cool. He is finally getting around to turning the old desktop into a server and getting the files off that I had wanted!
In other news, Rhys has two new words today. Shoes and book. He pretty much slept most of the day away today after his pretty busy weekend, but when he was awake, he decided to bust out his new words. So at almost 14 months...his words are: hello, hi, bye, eye, Rhys, doggie, caca (food/cracker/popcorn), Papa, baba, bobo, wow, what's that?, Pepe, baby, mommy, daddy, please, more, and thank you. He does the baby signs for food, more, and all done. He is so different than Ava. Maybe it is because he sees her do things, though she always saw older kids at daycare. He just climbs up on things. He can get on and off his riding toys. I don't think Ava figured that out until way over two. He goes up stairs but hasn't figured out how to go down yet. It isn't like even if he figures it out we will let him have free reign on our stairs anyway, but it would be nice at other people's houses who don't have huge staircases.

soooo frustrated!
So this past week I had my first paper due for this new class I am in. It isn't exactly new since this week is the halfway point, but still, the first paper. I finished it, felt pretty good about it and submitted it, right on time. I actually had an hour to spare, which for me is doing pretty well. I check my grade tonight and it was a 0. That is right, a big fat, 0. I was slightly confused by this and went to look for comments. Even if the paper was horribly bad, I should have at least gotten half of the credit. It showed that I submitted something with no attachment at 5:44am MST MONDAY! I promise you, I was not even awake at this time. Plus why would I submit nothing that late? It was already late, so if I were going to do the whole fake attachment thing wouldn't I have done it on time????? I wrote my teacher an email, so we will see what he says. I might just have to eat it, though I will definitely go above him if that is what he says my option is. At this point, I can only get a B if I earn all my points from here on out if this zero sticks around. A B will be better than wasting my tuition though, I guess.
I am also frustrated with this sickness surrounding our house. Last week Justin and Rhys both got sick on Thursday with fevers and general crappy feelings. They both went to the doctor on Friday. Justin thought he might have the flu or pneumonia and we thought Rhys' ear infection from a couple weeks before just hadn't cleared up. They were both fine, just a virus, come back if it gets worse. Justin is pretty much back to normal, with just a lingering cough. Ava and I both got fevers Friday night and Ava got the cough and I got a headache. I started to think Rhys must have had the headache version too since he was clearly miserable for no particular reason. Then he started in with the cough and snot pouring from his face. He has been sleeping a lot and last night he was just mad at everything. He is clearly not feeling well at all still and has very little energy to do a whole lot of playing. I feel bad for hte little guy. I think he has been sick or getting over something everyday except for like 5 when he was on antibiotics since mid-December.

stinky
Here is an email I got earlier this week from Justin.
ava this morning: "daddy you need to spray pepes poop!" me: "i dont smell anything, i dont think he pooped." ava: "he did! you need to spray it! its stinky!"
all morning: "daddy i dont like this stinky drink! I need a new one!" me: "ava, its water in a clean cup. its not stinky." "it is! its stinky! i dont want it!"
2 minutes ago, whining/crying: "daddy, i dont want this stinky drink!" me: "ava, maybe its your breath that stinks." her: "no, its my drink!"
after brushing her teeth: "ava, is your drink still stinky?" her: "it isnt!"
*****
The other night driving home, Ava had a great goal if driving into the sunset. She kept telling me to get closer to the yellow. I told her we actually couldn't unless we were flying in an airplane because the sun stays the same distance from the earth all the time, so it only looks like we could get closer. Her solution was to "get rid of the wheels on the car and put some sharp things on it (wings) and we can fly to the yellow on bacation. Oooh we should do it on Daddy's little car, it will be better."
*****
Ava has now learned to always sit in the grocery cart. She flipped out and landed on her head. She was fine and just has a bruise, but I doubt that it was enjoyable. I think she has a higher pain tolerance than I do. She stopped crying in about a minute.
*****
Rhys is getting really brave with his walking. He still looks funny walking because he is about as tall as the average 6 month old. He is also obsessed with cell phones. He just tucks it by his ear or under his arm and walks around like a very old, drunk person, randomly saying "hiiiiiiii".
******
I have been a little concerned about how Rhys will learn to use silverware while eating. He skipped baby food so he isn't used to being fed with a spoon. We didn't teach Ava how to do it, she learned at daycare, so I don't even have the experience to rely on. Yesterday he was playing with a tea set. He held a cup and a little spoon and was pretending to scoop stuff out of the cup with the spoon and put it in his mouth. Apparently I don't have anything to worry about, at least with pretend food.

Mr. 9 months old!
Warning: there is a lot of baby bragging ahead. It really isn't bragging, just a stating of facts in a completely biased manner.
Last week Rhys was 9 months old. We went to his 9 month appointment on Friday. He was pronounced to be completely healthy and really ahead developmentally. He was 19 pounds, 13 oz and 27 inches long. He is in about the 40th percentile for weight and 20th for height. He really wouldn't look chubby at all if he weren't so compacted. His head is still up on the 70's.
Milestones he has hit:
He can clap and say "yaaaayyyyy"
He can walk 3-12 steps depending on how motivated he is.
He can stand unassisted for a couple minutes.
He imitates sounds we make. Tongue clucking and kiss sounds.
He responds to his name.
He actually regularly crawls around on his hands and knees now instead of on his stomach.
He holds phones up to his head/ear and says, "hi" sounds like aaaaaayyyyyeeeeeeeeee.
He has a good pincher grasp and eats pretty much anything we put in front of him as long as it isn't baby food. He is a big fan of cheese and peas. He hasn't gotten really into fruit yet but we keep trying.
He is finally generally sleeping through the night or when he wakes up he can get himself back to sleep.
He says mama and diidii/daddy.
He yells for Ava, usually calling her Ah or Aba.
He has said Pepe a few times.
He is so independent and happy to go off and play by himself most of the time that I have to make a conscious effort to give him one on one time. He just wanders around playing and plays with Ava that I can go an hour or two with just supervising. I love getting him out of the bed after naps or in the morning because that is when he is the most cuddly. He just snuggles into my shoulder for a good minute and hugs me. He has turned into such a happy little guy. It is funny now to see all of the faces he makes, including a very dramatic pout face. He is trying to move out of the baby phase so quickly, it makes me a little sad, but at the same time I am looking forward to seeing more of his personality come out.
